Sidel spindle tips are the components that engage PET preforms as they travel through the blow molder oven. Their condition affects how securely each preform is held and how consistently it can rotate during heating, making maintenance important for stable production.
UM has produced thousands of these spindle tips. Rather than reproducing the original Sidel spindle tip design, ours is inspired by the Krones version, which performs considerably better. Each tip combines two O-rings for more uniform pressure distribution with five segments that spread the forces more evenly. Together they make the design more permissive inside the preform, cutting misloading rates on the line. The spindle tip diffusor can also be colour-coded on request, so operators can identify formats at a glance.
Spindle tips should be inspected alongside the surrounding spindle body, bearings, guides and oven-chain components. Uneven tip wear across the chain may indicate alignment, handling or loading issues rather than normal uniform wear.
Keeping confirmed spare tips available can reduce delays during planned maintenance or an unexpected failure. UM can review catalogue references and evaluate samples when a replacement is needed
The spindle tip engages the PET preform in the oven transport system. It helps hold and rotate the preform while it passes the heating lamps. Consistent engagement supports uniform preform rotation and reliable transfer toward the blowing section. Confirm the tip profile against the preform neck finish before installation.
Look for visible profile wear, damage, poor preform engagement, slipping, irregular rotation or repeated dropped-preform events. Inspect the surrounding spindle and chain components as well, because alignment, bearings, guides or loading conditions can produce similar symptoms. Record whether the symptom affects every spindle or only isolated positions on the chain.
Spindle tips are personal parts, meaning that they are tailored to customer's machine. To reverse it, we will need the Sidel machine model, known part number, preform neck finish, quantity and clear photographs. Key dimensions or a physical sample (used or new) and a preform sample are required.
