Improved 40-Bar Pressure Regulator for Sidel Matrix Blow Molders

The 40-bar pressure regulator on a Sidel Matrix blow molder controls the high-pressure air delivered to the blowing stations. When its pistons and seals wear, blowing pressure becomes unstable, which shows up as bottle defects, wasted compressed air and unplanned stops. UM's improved Matrix regulator is built to last longer and to be easier to maintain than the OEM unit.

What UM Improved

  • A wider sealing lip on the main piston, for a more durable seal.
  • Wider lip seating on both pistons, which prevents edge wear on the pistons.
  • Longer piston guidance, for a more stable piston and a longer life.
  • A hard-anodized body that resists damage, so the body does not become unusable.
  • Colour-coded pistons: the exhaust piston is black, so the two pistons cannot be mixed up during maintenance.

Longer Service Life

With these changes, the UM regulator typically runs about two years before its first rebuild and lasts more than four years in total. The OEM regulator usually needs a rebuild after about 16 months and lasts two to three years.

Rebuild Kits and Rebuild Service

UM offers a rebuild kit for the improved regulator, a rebuild kit for the OEM regulator, and the tooling needed to rebuild either one on site. The two kits are not interchangeable, so confirm which regulator is installed before ordering. You can also send your regulator to UM and we will rebuild it for you.

Frequently asked questions

What does the pressure regulator do on a Sidel Matrix blow molder?

It reduces and stabilizes the high-pressure air supply to the blowing pressure set for the process, so every station receives the same pressure. A regulator that drifts or leaks can cause under-blown bottles, uneven wall distribution and higher air consumption.

Can I use the UM rebuild kit on my OEM regulator?

No. The kit for the UM improved regulator does not fit the OEM regulator, so UM also supplies a separate kit for the OEM design. Send the regulator part number or a photo of the unit if you are unsure which one is installed.

How long does the UM regulator last?

Typically about two years before the first rebuild and more than four years in total, compared with about 16 months and two to three years for the OEM regulator. Actual life depends on air quality, operating pressure and maintenance.
