Improved and Redesigned Blowing Blocks for Sidel Matrix Blow Molders

The blowing block on a Sidel Matrix blow molder controls the blowing air at each station through a set of pilot-operated pistons. UM offers two versions: an improved block with hardened components, and a redesigned block built for faster maintenance. Both come with 5 or 6 pistons and with Festo or MAC pilot valves.

Improved Blowing Block

The improved block keeps the OEM design but uses a hardened main block and hardened components throughout, for a longer service life. It is fully interchangeable with the OEM block.

Redesigned Blowing Block

We redesigned the block from customer feedback, with maintenance in mind:

  • The single cover is split into individual covers and the pilot valves are realigned, so maintenance can be done with the block in the machine. This saves a lot of downtime, especially during troubleshooting.
  • A full-length piston sleeve protects the block from wear and makes it easy to swap pistons.
  • Covers, sleeves and sockets are colour-coded.
  • Maintenance time is reduced by at least 30%.

Matrix Pistons and Seal Kits

UM's set of 6 Matrix pistons fits every version of the blowing block, OEM included, and is made to the same specifications and tolerances as the OEM pistons. UM also supplies seal kits for its blocks and for the OEM block, so pistons and blocks can be refurbished at mid-life instead of replaced.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the improved and the redesigned blowing block?

The improved block keeps the OEM design with hardened components for a longer life. The redesigned block adds individual covers, realigned pilot valves, a full-length piston sleeve and colour coding, so it can be maintained in the machine in at least 30% less time.

Do UM Matrix pistons fit my OEM blowing block?

Yes. The UM set of 6 pistons is compatible with all versions of the Matrix blowing block, including the OEM block.

Should I choose Festo or MAC pilot valves?

Both versions are available. Most customers match the pilot valves already used on their machine, to keep a single type of spare pilot valve in stock.
